Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Data Modeler to join our data team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data models that support our organization’s data architecture. You will work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure data is structured in a way that is accessible, efficient, and supports business insights and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement logical and physical data models based on business requirements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather data requirements and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Work with data engineers to optimize data structures for efficient querying and reporting.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, data lineage, and metadata documentation.
- Support the design and maintenance of data warehouses and data lakes.
- Monitor data quality and integrity within models and perform necessary corrections or improvements.
- Optimize and tune data models for performance, scalability, and consistency.
- Ensure that models are compliant with data governance policies and best practices.
- Provide expertise on database design and architecture during the implementation of new data systems and tools.
Required Skills:
- Strong experience with data modeling techniques (e.g., ER modeling, dimensional modeling, normalization, and denormalization).
- Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL).
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and architecture (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema).
- Knowledge of data integration and ETL processes.
- Experience with modeling tools (e.g., Erwin, IBM InfoSphere, Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart).
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into data models.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain documentation for models and schemas.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Knowledge of big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Familiarity with data governance and security standards.
- Understanding of data modeling in agile environments.
- Experience with BI tools and reporting systems (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Modeler (depending on role level).
- Master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
